Anwar vs. Wife vs. Deputy

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, released from prison in September 2004 was barred from any political post until April next year. However, he has appealed to the Home Ministry and whatever the outcome, will contest in the upcoming Parti Keadilan Rakyat elections. This means he will be contesting against his wife Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the incumbent, and former deputy president Abdul Rahman Othman.

By doing so, Anwar could:
  1. Pull out in the last minute and allow for a straight fight between his wife and Abdul Rahman.
  2. Contest and win and get disqualified by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), which the party will appeal, stretching the process into months. Then, from April 2008, the party can hold an extraordinary general meeting to get him elected officially.
  3. With no. 2 in mind, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could also pull out in the last minute, allowing Anwar and Abdul Rahman a straight fight.
