Ever since the Chinese melamine scandal exploded out of proportion, we are becoming wary of the food they eat and recently, also the containers or packaging that the food comes in. Associated with melamine would be plastic containers and bags, as well as plastic utensils. A positive side effect to this might just be we will be more environmental conscious - bringing our own containers to store takeaway food, for example.
To be honest, I am not about to, but would one day hope to. *SHY*

It's actually a side effect caused by fact that the average Malaysian is a f**king moron.
Melamine on it's own is non-toxic in low doses and yes, it's used in plastic cookware with no harmful effects. There are even plates made out of melamine, for god's sake (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=0WL&q=melamine+dinnerware&btnG=Search) and it's safe because the type of melamine used is more heat-resistant than regular plastic (although it's not microwave-safe, but if you're stupid enough to use non-microwave safe cookware in your microwave, then you deserve to suffer and die from poisoning).
The real problem with melamine comes when it reacts with cyanuric acid (which is a contaminant that might be found in our water), and then forms crystals which can't be broken down in our kidneys, hence causing renal failure.
If you're dumb enough to suddenly believe that eating hot food off a plastic plate is dangerous after years of doing so without any harmful effects, please GTFO this planet. Everyone complains about how stupid our government is but it's time we used a mirror and take a look at the idiots who voted them in and this is ample proof how dumb this country can be.
And don't get me started about Penangites getting worried about the health hazards of free wi-fi......
A very pissed off andrewk with our ignorance on the truth behind melamine. Looks like the people who were supposed to provide the proper information such as the government and the press need to do more. The average Malaysian or the rest of the world for that matter might not have the resources nor initiative to know the whole story.
