Increase in plastic and leather materials crucial in footwear is quoted as the main factor for the increase in footwear price. Besides that, 80% of raw materials used to manufacture footwear are imported. Very soon, the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association will impose this 10% rise in footwear though there is still yet to be a fixed date.
The last increase was seven years ago, according to Star Online Nation "Footwear to cost 10% more soon".
