Replacing Air-Conditioners In New Housing Estates

At Sarawak, Malaysia, at least. The state's Housing Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg said that a study is currently underway to use chilled water system instead of individual air-conditioners for a new housing estate. This will help to cut electricity costs. Chilled water systems are currently used in various shopping complexes, commercial and industrial buildings where chilled water are piped from a few centralised chillers to various lots across the complex or building.

However, this will also bring out a main issue where the majority of maintenance will be shared. How this cost will be distributed to the houses will be crucial. We have seen various condominiums where owners do not pay maintenance fees...
