Parents Beware!

Does this title from Star Online grab your attention: Children's vision not as good as adults, so keep them away from roads. Well, if it does, please take precautions and make sure you do not let your children wander off into roads by themselves! Here are some clippings from the article:
Children's field of vision is just one-third that of adults. That's enough reason to keep them away from roads, says Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) director-general Prof Dr Radin Umar.

“Children below 10 have problems judging the speed of vehicles and distance, as well as the direction of sounds because of their brain development,” he said.

Children also tended to assume that drivers in the car could see them when they were trying to cross a road.

Based on 2005 figures, about 20% out of the 876 cases of pedestrian deaths involved children aged between six and 10.

Some 50% of pedestrian deaths were children aged 16 and below.
