Alright, here's some info on animal sex... umm... actually, it's insect sex. Spider sex. This very interesting article (let's face it, most articles about sex have impacts) from NewScientist.com is about certain wasp spiders. These male spiders have tadaaaaaaaaaa... TWO genitals (called pedipalps) for sex. Right after sex with the female spider, the male will detach the one used for the act and leaves. Ouch or not, that's not reported, but detachable sex organs... that's a wow factor!
Scientists used to think this happens because the males would need to escape fast after sex, else risk getting eaten by the females. But recently, scientists also discovered that the pedipalp left in the female after sex is more likely used to prevent other competing males' sperm from entering the female!
And here's another eye opener... virgin females mate for approximately 16 seconds while those already have a pedipalp plugged in have sex in half that time!
